Right Wing Goon Squads Promote Less Choice For American Health Care (Or: So Just Opt Out You Losers)
August 9th, 2009 Rock Island, IL
This is kind of a letter to all the conservative right wing yahoos out there claiming their right to protest their right to pay mega corporations through the nose for health care in America.
Everywhere you go on the internet you find comments about health care in the news. I wonder if others are experiencing the same old tired conservative views spewed through their local papers? I see mostly conservatives commenting and the moderator at my local papers web site says that excessive length and profanity (I said bastards)is why he's denying my post. Btw, Bart Simpson says "bastards".
So in response to the nations Right(wrong)wing ranting about health care, I'm putting together a little list of things to counter their rantings with.
Employers will drop our coverage
Good! Good riddance. Yes the employers will drop insurance coverage only if the employees let them. They should then just walk off the job and find another employer. Or don't you believe that we should abandon the poor rich people in their time of need? Democracy is all about standing up for what is right and you think it is right that corporations ride Americans like a herd animal to their own slaughters because they (under)paid for the ride. I get it.
But then there is this little thing called reality. The CEO of GM when moving 20,000 jobs in 2008 I think sited health care costs as a reason. Simply because moving those jobs to Canada removed entirely the cost to the company to provide health care. General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner said that his company has spent over $103 billion over the last fifteen years on pensions and post-retirement health care benefits. “Obviously if we had the $103 billion and could use it for other things, it would enable us to be even farther ahead on technology or newer equipment in our plants or whatever,” Wagoner said.
The other noteworthy thing about all this debate is it that clearly government run health care is not what we'll have if we reform health care. We will have actual doctors running it but without the influence of greed on the part of HMO's. We're already in a situation where the health care is rationed out.
Government Run Health Care?
Lets really take a look at this. Medicare actually spends 98 of every hundred dollars on the patient. Only 2 dollars per hundred go to program essentials such as building costs, office equipment and salaries of administrators. As opposed to HMO's which collect 36 dollars or so out of every hundred health care dollars and they do this by denying care.
I'll try and keep this civil though clearly your ilk have not. For those of you genuinely concerned with the government takeover" of health care consider this: "The offices of government servants are listed for all to see and call etc. Try getting in touch with someone of authority at an HMO. As a customer you will not be guaranteed an audience with top level decision makers. This however is a protected right when dealing with the government. It is sometimes forgotten that the principles upon which this country was founded.
So if these HMO's that are raking it in at the expense of hard working Americans want to preserve their cash cow they have no choice but to spew misinformation and hate and violence at town hall meetings. Never mind that these people are morally bankrupt, I say let them go financially bankrupt as well, they deserve considerably more, such as imprisonment.
Isn't being American all about having so many choices? Isn't that why we say "capitalism goood" even when clearly in this particular instance (health care) it is bad? Why is it that in health care you want less choice for all Americans? As you're sucking up to the god capitalism, why don't you (for a change) do it in your own self interest and take back some of that hard earned cash form the fat cats and vote with us for a change for real health care reform.
Besides, isn't it really the doctors who should be getting the money not corporate fat cats that don't care about you or your family?
Do you ever ask yourself who you're making richer?
I suppose you also believe in the poor put upon rich people who are whining about the increase in taxes. They do not pay more than their fair share either, that is a lie. They pay about their share. Corporations in the end pay little to no taxes across the board here in America.
The problem as I see it is the scarcity mind set that most conservative "thinking" Americans exist in. You believe that there really isn't enough to go around and so you fight for the scraps and bones these rich people toss you. The truth is that every bit of wealth in this country was built with the hands of the ordinary man and woman. The super rich just take most of it by working us like slaves while they invest in health care scams that take back all that they tossed us and then some.
I know this probably all sounds like liberal rhetoric but I really just like to think of all Americans as engaged in the same gigantic coop. We have more common ground than battle ground between us most of the time. I don't require that everyone around me agree with me either, I enjoy a good argument now and then. So, why do you think it is wrong for Americans to pool their resources and collectively smack down health care costs and work together toward a system that actually works and does something like guarantee that 98 of every hundred dollars goes to patient care... but wait! we already have that for the very old and ... well,
So what we're really afraid of is having a system that really works and the GOP losing elections in 2010 2012 marginalizing yet even more the sad and pitiful group the evangelical right (wrong) wing has become.
I'm sorry that the GOP and FOX news rode you like a mule to power and then kicked your agenda to the curb. Well, I'm not really sorry but here are my condolences for your resounding loss this last November. Now get over it please. I'm sure you would say exactly the same or worse were our roles reversed.
Regarding Tort Reform
Tort lawyers are the people that go after corporations that need going after. We use tort lawyers to stop environmental abuses, we use tort lawyers to go after a doctor that cut the wrong leg off. Do you know they want to cap the benefit for such a gross mistake and a wrong leg at $250,000.00? Is your leg worth more than $250,000.00? I know mine is.
Secondly, tort lawyers make a lot of contributions to Democrats. Tort reform has been pushed by Republicans across the board because while the GOP gets the bulk of its political contributions from corporations wanting favors, Dem's get most of their large political contributions from tort lawyers pursuing justice for and yes even buying favors for the American People. Certainly no one is perfect and we on the left are not without our faults but the current Right Wing Rhetoric is not about solving the crisis but doing nothing at all. Or worse, advocating less taxes for the wealthy and more freedom for corporations (who already live tax free) (see; The Me First, Screw You Crowd Are No Longer Hiding Their Antics If you don't believe me.)
Just Say No!
So, if you want to have bad or no health care why don't you just not go to the doctor? Opt out of the public plan and always give your money to corporate fat cats at the top. Go ahead and pay fealty to the current kings of America and keep paying into a broken system of health care while the rest of the world enjoys cost effective medical care with no caps or pre-existing conditions oh and no more being trapped in a crappy job maybe even putting up with sexual harassment in order to guarantee health care for your children.
Just go ahead and sit this debate out on the sidelines while you're at that opting out. Then maybe the people serious about solving the current crisis can deliberate in peace without the hate tactics that have been springing up around America at health care town halls.
The right(wrong)wing reactions following Obama's win in 2008 will either move them to the dust bin of history or we've taken the turn onto the final stretch of the road to American Fascism. We'll call it Americanism though.
Either way, the hateful disruptive tactics now being used lumps you in with the Hitler youth and the brownshirts of Nazi Germany. We all know what side of history they fell on. I know, I know, never happened, the Jew bastards organized their own victim hood. Just like women have more to do with their own rapes than the men who raped them (unless of course they were Black or Hispanic), and blacks brought on their own lynchings by being uppity. I hear it loud and clear right wingers, we're getting uppity.
See you in 2010!

The following was a comment I tried to post on QC online but it appears since there are only right wingers commenting on this story that it must be an exclusive right wing club and my liberal comments are regarding as disturbing and don't seem to get posted... hmmmm. I posted it as a comment to this story about Dick Durbin's recent round table on health care in Rock Island, IL See; Durbin touts health-care reform at R.I. roundtable
