Open Letter to President Obama

August 9th, 2009
Rock Island, IL

Let me be frank Mr. President, we need another F.D.R. and that is not what you're delivering.

your campaign promises were grand and we knew that much of it might go by the way side when things got down to business... hmmm, down to business. Even that phrase speaks what we all know about business, the direction is downward.

I recently read an article regarding a big 80 billion dollar deal with big pharma. Very simply, this is not why I personally worked so hard in Indiana to get you elected, so that you could give the largest chunk of change in history to wall street, arguably the biggest welfare queens in U.S. history. No, what we needed was an equal and opposite example of a president that we had with GWB, probably the worst president in U.S. history who by the way had no problem (Wrongfully and without a clear mandate from the people) taking the reigns of this country and running it into the ground. We now desperately need you Mr President, to rightfully take the very real mandate you've been given by the American people and win real health care reform for every man woman and child in America. Anything less will put the democratic party back in the very same place it was before. Disillusion us and you risk elections in 2010 and 2012.

Unfortuneately, from where I'm standing now, that you will be remembered as the President who allowed the middle class to disappear entirely. This will be particularly hard on African American and other minority families. But hey, that's just business as usual right?

What We need now is another FDR

We are closer than we ourselves may know since it appears that the only thing left (as far as tactics are concerned) in the right wing hate squad's bag of tricks is violence. We should give these goon squads the option to opt out publicly and give them no health care support. Let them be the outsiders that they truly are. It would serve them right. In truth, my morality and I suspect yours is similar, would prevent my really withholding health care assistance from those in need. Even though they would beat me to death if they thought they could get away with it.

How are we going to defeat hate Mr. President? How do we combat Fear Mr. President?

I know that there is every likelyhood that right wing violence will end any chance for real progressive reform (as violent right wing radicals give the police state a reason to exist), and that if you don't act kind of centrist" In the end, all you're getting is what you think will be a guaranteed ticket to be the richest African American on the planet. Just like all the lame presidents we've had before.

I'm beginning to be sorry I worked so hard for you Mr. President. I gave up being with my brother for the last 6 months of his life. I had no idea he would be gone when I returned home from Indiana where I and many others worked tirelessly to register one fifth of the un-registered voters in Indiana. I now believe that Hillary would have been a much better President.

All democratic power rest upon giving Americans the best deal we've gotten in half a century. Hillary understands this much better than you do Mr. President. Ask her. Ask her what you should do regarding health care. She knows, you don't. Clearly. Or this 80 billion would never make it to big pharma, it would make it back to the people who's money it really is in the first place. We the people. Remember us? The 75% of America that elected you? We won. And yet it appears that we Dem's have lost our spine entirely. We have more political capital than we have in possibly 50 years. What are you spending it on? Wall street.

I'm clearly disgusted with the course I've seen taken by your administration. You can't blame this on us not being there for you Mr. President. I gave up the last 6 months of being with my brother in 2008. It's your turn. Sacrifice your power Mr. President. Sacrifice it for all of us and you will be remembered through history as the President who busted Wall Street at their own Games.
